On Monday Nov. 30, a mysterious entity was spotted around Highway 151 and Loop 1604 on San Antonio’s Westside. Eyewitnesses who contacted news radio station WOAI and the San Antonio Police Department, described a “big foot-type creature,” about six-feet-three inches tall, hairy and emitting a foul odor. Claims were also made that it carried a deer into the forest near a water tower off the side of the road. Police characterized one of the callers as “surprisingly sober,” and one witness was a doctor.

WOAI had received reports of a similar sighting in the area two weeks prior. Workers at JD’s Paint and Body Shop, a local business near Highway 151 and Loop 410, described a creature about three feet tall foraging through the dumpster outside the business. One eyewitness remarked that the creature hissed at him. A pair of prints was left at the scene.

Examiners hired by the store’s manager commented that the prints resembled baboon tracks. A representative of the nearby Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation center watched a company video and concluded the creature was a macaque, a monkey native to Asia that possibly escaped from the 200 acre center which serves as a home for approximately 200 primates.

But this does not explain the 6’3” creature that was seen carrying a deer. Some have hypothesized that this might have been a hunter, but others are drawing very different conclusions, that this could possibly be the infamous Sasquatch. Perhaps the smaller creature sighted is a child of this behemoth of folklore.

Rick Tullos of the Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization examined the area and found a set of tracks he believes might belong to the creature. He is currently conducting several tests on the findings.

Throughout the past few years, such reports have been commonplace around Lackland Air Force Base. Could it be that unbelievable that something mystifying might actually lurk in the darkness on the outskirts of town? These sightings have recently sparked the imagination of our city. Perhaps we are on the threshold of solving an age old mystery.

But maybe there’s a more logical explanation for the sighting. People saw a hairy creature with a deer; perhaps Santa has come early this year.
